Populating lists of military units from all the countries involved in the First World War is a huge task.

Albanian units in World War I

Not started. Help!

American units in World War I

Order of Battle.

900 infantry brigades, regiments, battalions and machine gun battalions ready for import. This is all of the infantry from divisions on the Western Front.

Australian units in World War I

Pages exist for all AIF infantry and light horse up to brigade level. ANZAC and Australian corps have pages. Divisions redlinked. Most other AIF units that have war diaries are redlinked (and a few have pages), except for supply and transport, depots and bases, veterinary, and a few other obscure ones. Are there any significant AIF units that don't have war diaries?

Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force and its battalions all have pages.

Citizen Military Force (aka Militia): added links to lists of pre-war units in 1914 British Army List but names not redlinked yet.

Permanent Force units listed in 1914 British Army List are redlinked.

The larger RAN warships and some transports are redlinked but there may be more transports, supply ships and smaller armed vessels missing. The Australian Official History might contain details of missing ships.

Belgian units in World War I

Not started. A few Belgian artillery units fought under British command and have war diaries in WO 95.

British units in World War I

Pages now exist for every battalion mentioned in E.A. James, British Regiments 1914-1918. This covers all branches except Volunteer Training Corps. We still need a list of VTC regiments and battalions.

Pages also exist for every infantry division and corps, and all armies and expeditionary forces in European theatres. Some brigades (that don't have war diaries) and lots of formations (in non-European theatres) are still missing.

The British units page also includes some units from parts of the British Empire outside Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

Machine gun units, cavalry, cyclists and horse artillery ready for import.

Canadian units in World War I

Redlinked list of infantry battalions, brigades and divisions probably complete. Most pages not yet created. Naming conventions need to be decided because redlinks are very inconsistent.

1914 British Army List includes a complete list of pre-war Militia units.

Chinese units in World War I

We have basic information and further sources about the Chinese Labour Corps but no detailed list of units, and no information about the composition of the Chinese Army.

French units in World War I

War diaries all online. No permalinks to individual units, but at least gives a list of unit names.

Wikipedia has pages for some formations. These army pages lead to pages for some component corps and divisions:

General information at Wikipedia: French Army in World War I.

Corps Expeditionnaire d'Orient was the main French formation at Gallipoli.

Greek units in World War I

Not started. Help!

Indian units in World War I

Pages exist for all infantry divisions that existed, and for (probably) all battalions and brigades that have war diaries. The missing battalions and brigades don't have redlinks.

Hart's Annual Army List, 1914 includes what looks like a complete list of the full names of pre-war Indian regiments.

Machine gun units and cavalry ready for import.

Italian units in World War I

Started, but no definitive online sources (that I could find). Some published sources available.

Japanese units in World War I

Not started.

Montenegrin units in World War I

Not started. Help!

New Zealand units in World War I

Started. Should be complete for infantry, lots more other possible units could be added (some listed on the talk page).

Portuguese units in World War I

Redlinked Western Front infantry battalions, brigades and divisions.

Linked to external site that seems to give complete list of units at home, on Western Front and in Africa (all in Portuguese but military terminology is fairly easy to translate).

Romanian units in World War I

Not started.

Russian units in World War I

Not started.

Serbian units in World War I

Not started.

South African units in World War I

Pages exist for South African Overseas Expeditionary Force infantry battalions and brigades that have war diaries. Some units are probably missing.

1914 British Army List gives a complete list of pre-war Union Defence Force units.

We don't yet know whether any new units were raised for the invasion and occupation of German South-West Africa.
