This page defines Formation, which can be used as a value of the "type" parameter in {{infobox military unit}} like this:

| type = Formation

A Formation was a group of tactical units, often of different types. In armies that had a separate administrative hierarchy, a formation could include units from different administrative regiments and corps.

For the purposes of this site, the type Formation currently applies to division level and above. Infantry brigades are classed as infantry. Cavalry, mounted and cyclist brigades are classed as mounted.
