Description

Catalogue reference: WO 153/167

This trench map shows the objectives of the British Army’s 29th Infantry Division for the first day of the Somme. The intention was for the army to reach the first thick red line 20 minutes after zero hour – 7.50am. However, Beaumont-Hamel, which can be seen in the middle of the map, to the right of the thick red line, was not captured until November 1916.
